Stephane Zerbib, John Galliano’s layer, speaks out on being Jewish.

As the fashion world awaits word from Dior on just who will succeed John Galliano, the designer's lawyer, Stephane Zerbib, is speaking out on the controversial case in a new interview with Israeli news source Ynet.

Zerbib, who is Jewish, may seem a surprising choice to defend Galliano against accusations of anti-Semitic statements, but the lawyer points out that this is not a token gesture: He has worked for the designer for seven years.

Calling Galliano "polite, courteous, and very human" and "not a racist or an anti-Semite," Zerbib said his client's shocking outbursts (including being caught on film saying, "I love Hitler") were the result of intoxication, not prejudice.

"I have no explanation," Zerbib said. "It could happen to any one of us. Anyone can go to a bar, drink a little, and get into a fight with someone."
