Hot on its trail? Second-place Procter & Gamble (home to Pantene, CoverGirl, and Gucci), which boasts an estimated $19.57 billion in sales.

Dove helped propel Unilever to the third-place spot (with $16.98 billion in sales), while Estée Lauder ($8.29 billion) and Shiseido ($7.75 billion) took fourth and fifth, respectively.

Skincare proved profitable for Avon (#6 at $7.67 billion), Nivea's Beiersdorf (#7 at $6.67 billion), Bioré's Kao Group (#8 at $5.83 billion), and Neutrogena's Johnson & Johnson (#9 at $5.7 billion), while 10th-place Chanel ($4.44 billion) just managed to squeak past LVMH (#11 at $4.09 billion).

Maybe it was the Kiera Knightley commercial for Coco Mademoiselle?
