Work it! Sofia Vergara is set to heat up a new CoverGirl ad campaign, launching next January.

When Sofia Vergara teased to her Twitter followers that she had “BIG news” to share, she wasn't kidding.

The Modern Family actress (and recent Diet Pepsi campaign star) announced that she has signed on as CoverGirl's latest celebrity spokesmodel.

“My BIG news,” the Colombian beauty tweeted. “So happy to be the new @covergirl!!!”

“I have loved playing with makeup ever since I was a little girl,” the 38-year-old Emmy nominee said in a press release. “And now, I am so honored to join the lineup of extraordinary women that are and have been CoverGirls, and to be a part of a brand that is so committed to helping women look and feel beautiful.”

“We couldn’t think of a better person to represent our brand,” says CoverGirl general manager Vince Hudson. “Sofia is gorgeous inside and out and has broad appeal. She personifies what it means to be a CoverGirl through her confidence and beautiful sense of humor.”

Behind-the-scenes snaps shared by Vergara—who joins fellow CoverGirls like Drew Barrymore, Ellen DeGeneres, Dania Ramirez, Taylor Swift, and Queen Latifah in representing the beauty brand—show her rocking bombshell waves and a body-con red dress with sheer black panels as star hairstylist Oribe tends to her hair, as well as working a cream sheath in another shot.

Expect the finished campaign to launch in January 2012, when the Kmart designer will help CoverGirl introduce new products.
