While the former Friends star practically owes her career to her hair, she actually considers her most famous do a don’t.

“Let’s just say there have been moments I’d rather not relive, like that whole Rachel thing,” 41-year-old Jennifer Aniston tells the magazine of her ’90s-era Chris McMillan cut.

“I love Chris, and he’s the bane of my existence at the same time because he started that damn Rachel, which was not my best look. How do I say this? I think it was the ugliest haircut I’ve ever seen. What I really want to know is, how did that thing have legs?”

Aniston, who describes herself as a “closet hairdresser,” admits that she likes to switch up her strands (“I get tired of stuff quickly,” she says), and for Allure, she joined the bold-bangs brigade, wearing a long, asymmetrical curtain of fringe while donning silk Koomi Kookon pajamas, top unbuttoned.

McMillan coiffed Aniston for the Michael Thompson shoot, and the Just Go With It star says that getting her glammed for any professional gig is a true team effort.

“Chris will say, ‘What do you want to do?’ And I’ll say, ‘I don’t know. What do you want to do?’ And then something comes of it. Occasionally, he’ll look at my dress, and if it’s severe, he’ll give me more tousled hair,” she says.

“When I’m on my own, I’m pretty low-key. But Chris will continue to try to sell new looks to me. He’s a big fan of the side ponytail. And I’m not buying. I think Chrissy on Three’s Company was the last chapter in that book. It’s just as well that Suzanne Somers put that puppy to bed.”

The February issue of Allure arrives on newsstands January 25. In the meantime, check out Aniston’s style evolution and behind-the-scenes footage from her cover shoot at Allure.
