Peter Som on Kate Middleton, Ryan Gosling and His Design Inspiration
Peter Som's designs are nothing short of genius, a combination of fresh, fashion-forward, feminine and cutting-edge. He heads an empire that includes both fashion and interior design.
He also has a spectacular sense of humor. We have a running joke about marketing a box containing ten pairs of pants at a discount price, the catch being that you never know what you're going to get—could be Armani, but more likely something you've never heard of. We would call it Box O'Slax.
The designer took a moment to talk to FashionEtc about fashion and some of his favorite things in the midst of prepping for his Spring 2013 show.
What motivated you to become a designer?
I wanted to be a designer since I could pick up a pen.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Everywhere! Art, film, nature—just walking around NYC is an inspiration!
What other projects are you working on?
Lots of exciting things coming down the turnpike—you'll find out soon!
What was your biggest fashion challenge?
Every day is a challenge! But when you do something you love its all worth it.
If you could dress anyone, who would it be?
Kate Middleton.
What is your favorite charitable cause?
Gods love we deliver, New Yorkers for children.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A fashion designer or an architect.
