In the snood: Hooded looks on the Donna Karan, Victoria Beckham, and Doo.Ri runways.

Forget your old beanies and fedoras—for Fall 2011, designers have offered up a decidedly sleeker option to keep your head warm and every hair in its proper place. Whether you call it a hood, a scarf, or a snood, everyone has a take.

Victoria Beckham’s hooded magenta tunic recalls the ’60s-era modernism of Pierre Cardin or Balenciaga, while Donna Karan’s hooded number seems more suited to Grace Kelly—those pearls and the impeccable chignon don’t hurt.

Doo.Ri’s hood, which comes attached to a ruffled-front coat, seems more appropriate as a shield from the elements—a much chicer option than that old hoodie, no?

Mandy Coon and Kimberly Ovitz, meanwhile, looked to the darker side with their hoods: Coon’s peeked out of a sleek leather coat and Ovitz paired her black hood with a gray knit, black jeans, and plenty of face-obscuring hair.

More practical than the vinyl mini-berets at Marc Jacobs, more edgy than the ubiquitous fedora—for Fall 2011, it looks like you’ve found your new turban.
