The pool room at the Four Seasons restaurant was packed on the night of October 12 as the Museum of the City of New York celebrated its fall gala, New York After dark. Valentino and Graff co-sponsored the event. Many chic-sters wore gorgeous Valentinos, including Sara Ayres, Whitney Fairchild, Dayssi Kanavos and Shafi Roepers.

Kim Vernon, sexy in Yigal Azrouël, was thrilled with the format and the venue.

"I love the room, I love its civility. Without having to be seated, you can really mingle [and] see many people, as you're not strapped to a dinner table,"said Vernon, who has quite a few projects coming up. "I'm just about to re-sign Allegra Hicks for West Elm for a second season (fingers crossed), and I'm working on my presentation for my speech at the first ever Luxury Conference in Mexico City November 7th."

I'm the first to admit that I may have a crippling fear of patterns. My apartment? White as can be (a Margiela canvas, I call it). My closet? The opposite, a sea of black. But walking into the Marimekko flagship launch on October 6—where there were wall-to-wall colors, dots, graphics and more, I may have overcome my phobia.

The party—with an unending supply of champagne and dancers using sheets of Marimekko prints to mime synchronized swimming or just writhe around (gracefully, of course)—was as parties go, a huge success. Packed to the brim with people, I was grateful to find fellow fashion pals from the Wall Street Journal and InStyle.

2011 Silver Hill Gala Kickoff Dennis Basso, Shafi Roepers, Michael Cominotto, Dr. Sigurd Ackerman

Mental illness is a difficult and debilitating disease, sometimes requiring hospitalization. Silver Hill hospital has a special long-term program to shorten and lessen the impact of this terrible disease. Although the hospital is better known as a rehabilitation center for the famous and well-heeled—Catherine Zeta-Jones, Edie Sedgwick, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, to name a few—it also helps patients who can't afford treatment through scholarship programs.

Some of the funds are raised through the annual gala. Last year, the inaugural event was chaired by Dennis Basso and Michael Cominotto. This year, on November 3, they will be the honorary chairs, and Carrie Fisher will be the honoree.

Shafi Roepers, a close friend of Basso and Cominotto's, gave the kickoff party at her gorgeous home.

"Having been a very close friend of Dennis and Michael's for so many years, I'm so happy to support their wonderful efforts for Silver Hill," said Roepers. We're looking forward to the gala. I know it will be a great success as it's being spearheaded by Dennis and Michael again."

Lunch and shopping at the Valentino boutique, for a great cause—the invitation was too good to resist, especially when the hostesses were some of New York's most dynamic (and chic) women.

Alexia Hamm Ryan, Sara Ayres, Shafi Roepers, Calvert Moore, Ferebee Taube, Jill Roosevelt, and Tara Rockefeller were there to spearhead the luncheon in support of The Museum of The City of New York, whose Fall Gala on October 12th will be co-sponsored by Valentino.

Hard to go wrong in Valentino.

"Whenever I wear Valentino I feel like I just jumped into a big delicious glass of champagne," said Roosevelt, looking terrific in a beige dress.
