Honor designer Giovanna Randall couldn’t have picked a more perfect day to break in her brand-new Meatpacking District digs; the 70-plus degrees and sunny skies meant party-goers came in droves to her airy store.

“I love New York City, and I’ve always loved the parts of Manhattan that are kind of historical and show where it started,” Randall said of her shop, which was packed with girlie offerings from her Spring collection. “I think the Meatpacking District is a perfect example of what’s great about New York. It has sort of a gritty feeling, but there’s this chic crowd of wonderful neighbors—it’s perfect.”

Fellow designers Abigail Lorick and Lisa Salzer joined a glamorous host committee of Lesley Blume, Flo Fulton, Cena Jackson, Lily Kwong, Annabel Mehran, Ariel Meredith, Annelise Peterson, Olivia Sandelman, and Arden Wohl for the New Yorkers for Children–benefiting bash, where Alexandra Richards manned the DJ booth and guests snacked on summery treats like mini fish tacos and grilled cheese sandwiches.

While we’re sure Honor’s sweet style will have shoppers flocking, FashionEtc had to ask Randall to dish about her fascinating former pursuits; the designer studied vocal performance (favorite karaoke song: Livin’ on a Prayer) and pre-med before launching her line in 2010.

“When I was studying opera or studying for a pre-med test, I would be making a dress at the same time!” she laughed. “I’m passionate about a lot of things, and I think that serves me well in fashion.

“I’ve always been making clothes, since I was little. It just occurred to me, after going through different iterations of careers, that I really should be doing the thing that I couldn’t help but do.”
