For those of you new to New York (or too young to remember!), the Barneys New York flagship store wasn’t always located on Madison Avenue! The original Barneys opened right downtown on the corner of Seventh Avenue and 17th Street in 1923. This original store was shut down just a few years after the new location opened.

In a move that makes all of us fashion lovers happy, Barneys will be opening up another location – in the same spot as their original store! The new store will boast 58,000 square feet over 4 floors, and will not merely be just another Barneys location – it’s a Barneys for THIS generation, drawing in the new young downtown crowd. Fear not – the Barneys we know and love on Madison will remain!

Barneys CEO, Mark Lee told Vanity Fair that this store is “a modern Barneys for a modern downtown New York.” The store’s window displays take on a different look through pictures and video footage, featuring the work of Bruce Weber, the photographer who captures the people and sites of New York.

We’ll be checking out the store’s launch to see the exciting new capsule collections from Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, and Vêtements – which will be exclusive to this new location only.

Welcome home Barneys!
