The madcap designer was detained by Paris police after an incident in which he allegedly assaulted and made anti-Semitic remarks toward a couple at a bar in the Marais district, accusations that Galliano's lawyer denies.
"Dior affirms with the utmost conviction its policy of zero tolerance towards any anti-Semitic or racist words or behavior," Dior chief executive Sidney Toledano said in a statement to Reuters.
"Pending the results of the inquiry, Christian Dior has suspended John Galliano from his responsibilities."
The news leaves a giant question mark not only over Galliano's fate but also the status of the luxury label's Fall/Winter 2011 runway show, which is slated for March 4 in Paris. He is also scheduled to present the collection for his eponymous label on March 6.
Will the shows still go on? Stay tuned ...
