Back in black: Kirsten Dunst, Evan Rachel Wood, and Charlize Theron at the 2012 Critics' Choice Awards

Emma Stone may have still been working the emerald green trend from the People's Choice Awards the night before in her belted Jason Wu, but for many of the A-list attendees at the January 12 Critics' Choice Awards, black was the color of choice.

Among those betting on black? A Chanel-clad Chloe Moretz, Best Supporting Actress winner Octavia Spencer in a V-neck jersey Tadashi Shoji dress paired with a Swarovski clutch, and Evan Rachel Wood, in a strapless black lace Valentino dress accessorized with a slim clutch from the label and earrings by Dana Rebecca Designs.

In an ironic show of crisscrossed "brand loyalty," Dior J'adore frontwoman Charlize Theron stepped out in a black scallop-edged Alaïa Haute Couture gown paired with platinum Bulgari earrings and a diamond ring, while recent Bulgari fragrance campaign star Kirsten Dunst wowed in Harry Winston jewels and a Dior black silk and tulle frock with a bow details.

Judy Greer, Bridemaids stars Ellie Kemper and Maya Rudolph, and Meryl Streep also made a play for the dark side, proving that, when you're hoping to come home with a shiny trophy, nothing offsets it better than a trusty LBD.
