Crimson tide: Reese Witherspoon, Stacy Keibler and Dianna Agron opt for scarlet dresses.

What goes with a red carpet better than a red gown?

Nothing, which could explain why a trio of Hollywood beauties graced the 2012 Golden Globes in ruby-hued creations that couldn't help but steal the spotlight.

Dianna Agron made a big impact in her scarlet Giles gown boasting intricate laser-cut embroidery and a tiered skirt. A tasteful chignon courtesy of Frederic Fekkai stylist Adir Abergel, matching red lips, Judith Leiber bag, Casadei heels, and vintage jewelry from Fred Leighton (including a 1920s onyx and diamond bow bracelet) completed the modern-day Grace Kelly look.

Meanwhile, Reese Witherspoon paired long bohemian waves (also from Abergel) with a strapless red taffeta bustier dress from Zac Posen's Pre-Fall 2012 collection and Fred Leighton's European-cut diamond drop earrings and vintage diamond bracelets in platinum.

Though stars like Angelina Jolie (in a creamy Versace number accented with a crimson Louboutin Pharaon clutch) and Natalie Portman (in hot pink custom Lanvin) opted for small splashes of red on their gowns, Stacy Keibler went all out with her bold halter-neck number featuring a bow detail in the back.

Chopard jewelry and a slim black frame clutch rounded things out, but accessory of the evening easily went to her boyfriend, Mr. George Clooney. Was there ever any question?
