Overall Takeaway: The name Valentino has gotten a lot of play in the last few weeks.  First, the New York City Ballet honored the designer himself, Valentino Garavani, at their fall gala. Though he’s retired from his namesake label, Mr. Garavani designed all the costumes for one of the pieces performed at the show. Then, last weekend Anne Hathaway walked down the aisle in a custom Valentino gown made of gauzy tulle and lace. And finally, Tuesday afternoon the Valentino label sent a collection down the runway in Paris that was girly enough for either the ballet or a dreamy wedding.

Between the spaghetti strap slip dresses, tea-length lace frocks, delicate dandelion prints and ladylike bib details, gentle femininity was on full display. The label’s lead designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli even managed to make red leather look suitable for a daytime luncheon.

All in all it was a very well-mannered collection. The proper white collars, high necklines, and puffy sleeves just might have fashion fans reaching for a copy of Emily Post. Pinky up ladies!
