SHOW: Chloé Spring 2013 RTW

THEME: Whimsical Effortless Sophistication

ACCESSORIES: Classic bags and small studs

OVERALL TAKEAWAY: Very few designers do sophistication as well as Chloé. And after this collection, there is no wonder why. Each garment was impeccably construction, but with an effortless element that consistently puts the brand in a class all its own. The designer used soft colors with white being her clear primary. The designer presented a collection of garments that were Parisian chic.

As cliché as that sounds – the collection is a celebration of Paris fashion with several hints of vintage throughout. A prime example – a dress with pleated chiffon flounces around the neck and sleeves. That kind of embellishment is general practice to French fashion houses, but when presented to the industry, it always leave a lasting impression.

Other garments included loose sleeves and one-shoulder pieces with what looks to be printed floral-bird arrangements. The length of most garments is probably what’s most interesting about this collection. The designer leaves much to be desired but in a way that’s still alluring. Cuts come just slightly below the knee on some, and barely at the knee on others. One would be hard-pressed to find uber-tight dresses in this collection.

Still, the collection was fun and edgy while staying true to the Chloé aesthetic. Somehow, Chloé’s offering manages to speak to a younger generation with the sophistication and old-school finishing of an earlier generation.
