Giambattista Valli Spring 2013 RTW
SHOW: Giambattista Valli S/S 2013
THEME: The lady of the manor forgets her manners
OVERALL TAKEAWAY: Although it probably doesn’t work out timing-wise, we can’t help but wonder if this season’s Giambattista Valli show was inspired by the nude photographs of Kate Middleton that are circulating online and in various European tabloids.
His show was all about feminine, lacy frills and dresses that would be perfect for a state dinner. Yet many of the pieces showed a surprising and sometimes discordant bit of boob or butt winking from underneath a garment that Jackie O might have worn.

Many of the elegant tops were paired with equally elegant underwear, and nothing else. Several of the beautifully constructed black and white eyelet dresses just so happened to be transparent on top.
Casual nudity notwithstanding, these are truly clothes for women. Most of the pieces are cut to flatter a wider variety of body types – no bodycon dresses here.
Many of the pieces, like a gold-flecked coat or white halter dress, could go straight from the runway to the office or a cocktail party. Others – like the topless dresses – need only mild alterations or a slip. And if all else fails, you will have impossibly chic underwear.
