OVERALL TAKEAWAY: Cushnie Et Ochs stuck to what is quickly becoming the duo’s sartorial wheelhouse: minimal, monochromatic, sleek dresses. We appreciate when a design team finds a niche that works with their personal aesthetic, and they rarely waver: that comfort and ease allows them to flourish, expand, and test what might be otherwise rigid corners.

Case in point: the parade of monochromatic white, aqua, black, and vibrant purple pieces circling the runway today. Attendees sat on benches on the periphery of the runway and in the middle, where Bill Cunningham, sprite that he is, maneuvered around snapping the graceful models, sporting sleek middles parts.

White upon white upon white looks, interrupted by a couple of itsy bitsy bikinis, opened the show, which soon carried into vibrant aquas, blue violets, and blacks. Playful necklines, heightened shoulders, and baring cut-outs broke up the solid colors. (Michelle Obama might be a fan, but the bared midriffs and backless numbers probably aren’t going to be making their way around the campaign trail.)

But we have a feeling we’ll be seeing these again sooner rather than later, just not in Middle American stumping routes. Front-rower Kate Bosworth snapped a couple of looks, notably with architectural shoulders.
