Resort 2012: Monique Lhuillier

Monique Lhuillier’ Resort 2012

For those who frequent the black tie event circuit (or for those who frequently report on the black tie event circuit—ahem) it can sometimes seem like black and metallic are the only option for women’s formal wear. (Okay, nudes and blushes make appearances from time to time.)

But if Monique Lhuillier’s resort offerings catch on the way I hope they do, expect some serious color on red carpets—particularly, a bright poppy red that brightened up the whole room at her preview.

The shade came in an array of gala gowns (“It wouldn’t be Monique Lhuillier without gala gowns,” Lhuillier joked as she showed editors around the collection), plus trim little separates and some gorgeously light lacy pieces, like a sheer blouse (which also came in white for the color-phobic) and a V-neck lace dress. Another great option for those not bold enough for the bright red: a Pepto-pink evening gown with a pretty red ribbon belt—tomboys need not apply!

Lhuillier’s skill with beadwork was apparent in a black lace gown with beaded illusion sleeves and a party-ready silver strapless dress with tightly swirling beads and sequins. Sure, the aforementioned options are black and metallic, respectively—but with looks this lovely, who's complaining.
